If you’ve never used 100% wool felt before you will be amazed at the difference in quality compared with wool blend felts (which usually have 30-40% wool content) or acrylic felts.

Is wool felt the same as felt or is wool felt better?

100% wool felt is super soft but is much stronger than other types of felt, which means your creations will last and last, without stretching or going bobbly and shiny. This felt cuts beautifully and works well in die cutting machines. It’s great to sew with, either by hand or with a machine.  Our customers often tell us that we have the best 100% wool felt around and that once they’ve tried it they can’t use anything else :)

Where is our Wool Felt manufactured?

Our 100% felt sheets are manufactured in Europe to exacting quality standards.  This means that, unlike the wool felt made in Nepal, the colours are intense and even and the thickness is consistent.

Our 100% wool felt is mulesing-free and is made from 70-100% merino wool (depending on the availability of wool).

What thickness of 100% Wool Felt sheets are available?

Our felt sheets are available in 1mm or 3mm thicknesses.  Both of these meet European Toy Standards* and carry the Oeko-Tex ‘confidence in textiles’ mark, so contain no nasty chemicals, including heavy metals, making it perfect for toy making.

Choosing colours of your 100% Wool Felt

We try our hardest to show the felt colours as accurately as possible but because of different computer settings the colours may vary on different screens. Also, all pieces are cut by hand so sizes may vary a tiny bit.  As with many fabrics, there may be a slight difference in colour between dye lots.  If you need your felt to be an exact match we suggest you buy all the felt you need for your project in one go.

Larger pieces of felt will be sent folded. Any creases can easily be removed by ironing on a cool wool setting, making sure to switch the steam off (as the steam will shrink the felt).

Care instructions for your Wool Felt

For best results, dry cleaning or spot cleaning is recommended for 100% wool felt. However, some customers have said they have washed their felt by hand in cool water or on a gentle machine wash cycle. If washed in warm or hot water the felt will shrink will result in thicker felt. Air dry by laying the felt on a towel and reshape (without stretching!) as needed. Some colours may bleed even with hand washing in cool water. I would recommend that you try the cleaning method you choose on a sample piece first as results will vary.

Testing of our Wool Felt Sheets

The 100% wool sheets supplied by Cloud Craft have been tested and shown to meet the latest European toy safety standard EN71-3. A Declaration of Conformity can be provided - just shout

If you are using Cloud Craft 100% wool sheets for making toys, you will still need to test and ensure EN71 conformity of the toys before you sell them.

About our 100% Wool Felt balls

We stock wool felt balls in over 20 pretty colours.  They are hand made by women in a Fair Trade co-operative in Nepal.  They are great for bringing a pop of colour to all sorts of projects, such as garlands, jewellery and decorations.  They don’t have a hole but because they are a little squidgy they can easily be threaded using a standard sewing needle.  As they are handmade, the size of the balls can vary a little, adding to their charm.
