Over the last couple of years punch needle has become all the rage but it's mostly been with chunky yarns. Did you know that you can also create more intricate designs using embroidery thread? WelI, Yumiko Higuchi, is here to show us how with her latest book, Simply Stitched with Punch Needle.

I was recently sent a copy of this beautiful new book. Yumiko Higuchi is a stitch crush of mine so I couldn't say no! Yumiko has been an embroidery artist since 2008 and has a unique modern style inspired by nature that is much loved. In this book she applies this inimitable style to this form of punch needle embroidery, showing us how to make 11 projects, from hoop art to brooches, cushion covers and bags.

For those unfamiliar with this type of embroidery there's a comprehensive section on how to get started, including how to create both the flat style of stitching and the loopy and fluffy stiches, which allow you to add texture and make gorgeous 3d designs.  All you need, other than the usual fabric, hoop and embroidery thread, is a punch needle tool with the right needle gauge.

As you would expect from Yumiko, it's a super stylish book with carefully considered projects that look achievable. I think it's a great read for anyone keen to try a new form of embroidery that's quick to learn and easy to do.  The diagrams and instructions are clear and the photography is stunning.

Simply Stitched with Punch Needle is out now and is published by Zakka Workshop. I'm excited to have it in my craft book collection and can't wait to have a go at this type of stitching!
